RAM MIGHT BE THE FIRST BRAND TO LAUNCH A 3-ROW PICKUP TRUCK

A Direct Transfer From The Ram Revolution Concept

Ram 1500 3rd Row Jump Seat Patent

Remember when trucks didn’t have back seats, or if they did, they were extremely uncomfortable jump seats that still did the trick? Those days have been long gone for some time now as the vehicles have gradually gotten bigger over time. But now, Full-size trucks have gotten big enough to add a third-row option, or at least contemplate it as Ram has done with the recent patent application for third-row jump seats, tucked just behind the second row. The feature was first previewed with the Ram Revolution concept that came to light in 2023.

Ram 1500 Third Row Truck Seat Patent: Details

CarBuzz spotted the documents filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, fittingly filed July 4, 2024, which shows a design similar to that of the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept, which is quite spacious thanks to the STLA Frame Architecture. The third-row jump seats are drop-down cushions that fold out from the back wall of the cab. Fitting just behind the second-row chairs, they can stow away when not in use. The illustrations show cargo hooks on the bottom of the seats, so when folded, they could work great for additional storage of backpacks or grocery bags.

But if you’ve ever sat in a jump seat before, you know that it’s a very grueling experience. Then again, sitting in the third row of any vehicle isn’t exactly fun, but it gets the job done, and that’s the main thing. The plus here is that unlike most jump seats from pickups in the past, these ones are forward-facing, which means the ride could be a bit more enjoyable.

Interestingly, the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept actually had these jump seats installed behind the second-row captain’s chairs. That would provide easier access for people to the third-row seats. With captain’s seats in the back, there’s no middle section for a fifth, and these jump seats would solve that problem and provide room for one more, bringing the total seating capacity to six rather than four. It’s a neat idea, but it begs the question, would any adult be comfortable in the jump seat, or would it even be utilized? Let us know what you think.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
